KAHIBA [d/ch/a]

Heinrich von Kalnein, einer der beiden Masterminds der innovativen Großformation JBBG – Jazz Bigband Graz, unterwegs in einem neuen Trioprojekt: KAHIBA spielen eine virtuose und einzigartige Mischung aus Jazz, Musica Brasileira, Zydeco, Elektronik und 'folklore imaginaire'. Drei Virtuosen unterschiedlichster Herkunft und Generation erfinden – frei von stilsitischen Zwängen und Scheuklappen – gemeinsam und spielerisch ihre ureigene Musik.

Heinrich von Kalnein ist seit vielen Jahren schon als Solist und Bandleader international präsent. 2008 sorgte er zusammen mit der jbbg – Jazz Bigband Graz und deren aktuellem Album "Electric Poetry & Lo-Fi Cookies" (Intuition) europaweit für Furore. Daneben leitet er auch seit Jahren eine eigene Saxofonklasse am renommierten Jazzinstitut der Grazer Kunstuni. Von ihm kommt der überwiegende Teil der Kompositionen.

Der Schweizer Drummer und Sounddesigner Gregor Hilbe war Mitglied des Vienna Art Orchestra und arbeitete für einige Jahre in der Elektronik-Szene in Paris und London. Zusammen mit dem amerikanischen Bassisten John Silverman und dem österreichischen Holzbläser Gerald Preinfalk leitet er das Trio Republique Electrique. Er tourt weltweit mit dem Dinger/Songwriter Juana Molina sowie den Ensembles Tangocrash, Kaspar Ewald's Exorbitantes Kabinett und jbbg – Jazz Bigband Graz.

Newcomer Christian Bakanic hat sich als Mitglied der österreichischen Gruppen Beefolk und Folksmilch einen Namen gemacht und hat, neben seiner Liebe zu Jazz und der Musik des Balkans auch ein ausgeprägtes Faible für den argentinischen Tango. Rasant, virtuos und nebenbei ein hervorragender Komponist.

Zusammen sind sie KAHIBA.

Heinrich von Kalnein, one of the two masterminds of jbbg – Jazzbigband Graz, has a new trio project: KAHIBA plays a virtuosic and unique mixture of jazz, Musica Brasileira, Zydeco, Electronic and 'folklore imaginaire'. Three virtuosos from different origins and generations who are not afraid of bending genres and limitations to invent music of their own and of great uniquity.

Heinrich von Kalnein is internationally known as a soloist and bandleader for years. In the 1990’s he made his name with his HvK Group (featuring guitarist Nguyén Lé) and the Indo-Jazz World Music project Free Winds. He toured Russia, India, Sri Lanka, Mexico and the United States. As one of the two leaders of jbbg – Jazz Bigband Graz, he and his band received rave reviews for their album "Electric Poetry & Lo-Fi Cookies" (Intuition, 2007) and for their live performances.

Swiss drummer and sound designer Gregor Hilbe was a member of the renown Vienna Art Orchestra before he became an active member of the electronic scene in Paris and London. With American bassist John Silverman and the Austrian reed player Gerald Preinfalk he led the trio République Électrique. He’s been touring worldwide with singer/songwriter Juana Molina and with the ensembles Tangocrash, Kaspar Ewald’s Exorbitantes Kabinett, and with jbbg – Jazz Bigband Graz.

Newcomer Christian Bakanic made himself a name as a member of the Austrian bands Beefolk and Folksmilch. Beside his love for Jazz and the music of the Balkans, he feels a strong affection for and has profound knowledge of the Argentinean Tango. He is both, a terrific virtuoso and an outstanding composer.
