LED BIB gehören zu den Fackelträgern der jungen britischen Jazzszene. Ihr drittes Studioalbum Sensible Shoes (2009), von der Times als "Zukunft des Jazz" gelobt, gewann als Album des Jahres den Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2009.

Das junge Quintett um den Schlagzeuger und Komponisten Mark Holub spielt in der aktuellen Besetzung seit der Schulzeit zusammen. Obwohl man die Freunde für gewöhnlich beim anderen zum Tee antrifft, wo sie gern die Vorzüge verschiedener Biskuits diskutieren, ist es ihnen gelungen, die Jazzwelt mit ihren improvisierten Avant-Jazz-Euphoric-Rock-Explosionen gehörig durchzurütteln. Dies nicht zuletzt durch Holubs treibendes Schlagzeug und das Duell der beiden Alt-Saxofonisten. Die Klangreferenzen reichen von Metallica und Northern Soul zu Ornette Coleman und der New Yorker Downtown Szene.

LED BIB lassen das junge Leben und Träumen der britischen Hauptstadt hörbar werden. Ihre Musik liefert einen ehrlichen Kommentar zu Kampf und Drama, zu Verlusten und Liebschaften, allzeit gepaart mit äußerster Spielfreude. Oder um es mit The Wire zu sagen, "Das ist der Sound einer Band, die Spaß am Spielen hat ... geht ab wie eine glühende Kettensäge durch Butter!"

One of the original torch bearers for the revitalised young British jazz scene LED BIB released their third studio album Sensible Shoes on Cuneiform Records in May 2009. Described as "the future of jazz" by The Times, it was shortlisted as Album of the Year by the 2009 Barclaycard Mercury Prize judges.

LED BIB is an unassuming quintet comprising of London based twenty-somethings. The friends, who can usually be found in one another’s homes drinking tea and discussing the merits of biscuit types, have together torn apart the jazz world with their avant-jazz-euphoric-rock explosions of improvisation.

The group, formed in 2003 by drummer/composer Mark Holub, established its current line-up around five years ago with Liran Donin on electric and stand up bass, Toby McLaren playing Rhodes and piano and Chris Williams and Pete Grogan up front as the two duelling alto sax players. Although egalitarian in design, Holub’s presence as bandleader is felt throughout, driving tracks through at full throttle with 700 BPM drumming.

Their individual references peer out through the likes of Metallica-like riffs and Northern Soul licks to New York Downtown influenced improvisation. LED BIB toured throughout the summer ending with a show at the Royal Festival Hall before jazz legend Ornette Coleman.

LED BIB continue to reflect the realities and dreams of life living in London offering an honest comment on the struggle, drama, losses and loves – but always delivered with an element of playfulness.
